In 2016, Colombia's total electricity consumption was 65.0TWh, and the total electricity consumption in 2017 is 67.0TWh. It is estimated that from 2017 to 2021, Colombia's electricity consumption will grow at an average rate of 3.33%, and reach 76.5 TWh in 2021; from 2021 to 2026, Colombia's electricity consumption will increase at an average rate of 3.44% Increase and reach 90.6 TWh in 2026.

 

Colombia's transmission and distribution system consists of two main power grids: one serves the Atlantic coast and the other serves the inland regions. There are many small power grids connecting the two. The countrys transmission and distribution losses are relatively high. In 2016, the transmission and distribution losses were 9.7 TWh, accounting for 13.1% of the electricity generation. It is expected that the investment in the transmission and distribution network in the next ten years will significantly improve its efficiency and reduce the loss share to around 8.7%.
